| Design Goals
FlashReliance is designed not only as data backup software,
it has also been engineered to address shortcomings
of similar products and to work seamlessly and pleasantly
in the user's computing environment. FlashReliance is
also designed to be the perfect backup software for
the ever-popular portable storage devices.
With virtually all backup software and most software
products, their usages are neglected over time on a
user's computer due to various reasons. Our design team
has addressed these common problems by making our software
integrate seamlessly with the user's machine.
FlashReliance uses the concept of profile to identify
the files that are intended to be backup. Once the desired
profile is set, a backup could be launched either manually
or automatically according to preset schedules or workflow
options; so a user could start a backup with very little
effort and, if so prefer, without a single mouse click
- a truly "set and forget" capability.
Large
Feature Set
FlashReliance also provides powerful compression and
128-bit encryption functions. The compression is so
finely crafted that choosing such option will actually
speed up a typical backup. The standard 128-bit encryption
is considered one of the strongest encryption even by
today's standard. With strong encryption, backups are
protected with added security. We have also included
a suite of comprehensive scheduling options, which will
satisfy the most demanding IT professionals. Although
we have packed together a rich set of features normally
found only in enterprise backup software, we still manage
to package everything into one user-friendly program
that you will find pleasant and easy to use.

List of the major features:
Backup
Types
FlashRelinace supports both full backup and
incremental backup. While full backup saves every files
specified by the user, incremental backup only saves
the files that have been updated since the previous
backup. Storage devices with lower capacity such as
portable devices will benefit most from incremental
backup.

Backup
By Directory
In addition to saving individual files in a backup,
"backup by directory" allows users to specify
locations of the intended backup files without explicitly
identifying every single file (including files yet to
be created). Only at the time of backup, the actual
file list is assembled for the purpose of copying and
saving existing files under the designated directories
to the backup storage.

Backup
Profile
FlashReliance uses a file called "profile"
to conveniently record files that a user wants to backup.
Simple and easy-to-use user interface allows user to
create backup file list and to select the desired options.
Once the profile is created, FlashReliance will perform
backup and related tasks accordingly without further
intervention from user.

Scheduling
A backup could be scheduled daily, weekly,
monthly, by day of the week, by date of the month, a
specified date or any other periodic time intervals.
Multiple schedules could be defined in the same profile
and different combination of scheduling time and other
options are supported.

Workflow
Scheduling
Unlike the date/time dependent scheduling above, workflow
scheduling relates the state of the user's computing
environment to a backup and backup options. For example,
a user could instruct FlashReliance to run backup when
the PC shuts down. Other examples are "hibernate
after backup", "run another application after
backup", etc.

Compression
The compression feature compresses backup files before
saving to backup storage resulting in saving valuable
storage space. At restore, compressed files are automatically
decompressed to their original content. Due to the compression
efficiency, which greatly reduces backup file size,
a typical computer will take less time to backup than
a backup without the compression option enabled.

Encryption
Encrypted backup files provide data security on the
backup data. FlashReliance comes standard with 128-bit
encryption capability and offers several levels of key
management options giving users the most flexibility
in managing encryption key and backups.

Filtering
Identifying files to backup from a large file system
could be a daunting task. FlashReliance provides a powerful
filtering function to select and screen for desired
files. As files are being identified using the filtering
function, they could be marked as "keep" and
the user could continue to filter further files with
the existing selection or start anew by selecting and
filtering files from another part of the file system.

Unobstructed
Backup
FlashReliance is defaulted to run unobstructedly even
if the user is actively using other applications. There
are multiple settings that the user could choose which
specify how much computing resources should be allocated
to FlashReliance during a backup.

Backup
Record Management
Options are provided to automatically manage the number
of previous backups to keep, size of backups and storage
space usage. As new backups are created, older backups
could be purged safely and automatically. When properly
set, FlashReliance could use this feature to automatically
maintain storage space and to keep certain number of
the latest backups. This is another example of user-friendly
feature that requires almost no user intervention once
the initial set up is done.

Recovery
In the event that the primary drive of the user's PC
suffers a severe data loss, the Recovery feature allows
the user to recover backup files from backup devices
even if the data loss had also damaged the FlashReliance
installation.

Support
Portable Devices
FlashReliance recognizes in real time when portable
storage devices are connected to and disconnected from
the user's system. With the capability of working with
backups in storage devices that are constantly shuffled
off-line and put on-line as different drive designations,
FlashReliance is the preferred backup utility of the
ever increasing popular portable devices like flash
drives and USB enabled devices.

Support
Double Bytes
FlashReliance supports all Windows versions starting
and including Windows 98. It also supports double bytes
on all these Windows versions.

Extensive
Help
To compliment the easy-to-use objective of the product,
several help systems are provided. FlashReliance's status
bar displays user interface description as well as task
relevant information. Many of the window panels also
have built-in help to provide usage instructions. And
at any time, pressing the F1 key will launch the FlashReliance
Help system with the proper context shown on any FlashReliance
windows.
